A couple Alaskans helped the UAF women’s basketball team pick up a couple GNAC victories and hit a couple benchmarks.

Destiny Reimers of Anchorage and Ellen Silva of Fairbanks hit clutch free throws late in overtime to secure Saturday’s 77-73 victory over Western Oregon, giving the Nanooks their first OT win since 2013.

Two days earlier, they knocked off Saint Martin’s 71-62 to give UAF back-to-back GNAC wins for the first time since 2017.

Reimers, the 2020 Gatorade Alaska Player of the Year out of Mountain City Christian, returned recently after a two-month absence to provide a shot of adrenaline, reaching double figures in both wins.

The 5-foot-9 junior guard scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Western Oregon, including a jumper early in OT to give the Nanooks a 73-70 advantage.

Against Saint Martin’s she bagged 11 points and seven assists, the third time in six games this season she had seven dimes in a game.

Silva, of West Valley High fame, collected 12 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double in her last four games.

The 6-foot-1 junior had 13 rebounds against Northwest Nazarene last week and ranks fifth in the GNAC with 7.8 rebounds per game.

Kayla Johnson’s 18 points led four players in double digits and Emma Wass ripped down 13 boards for the Nanooks.

In Anchorage, Tori Hollingsworth pumped in 18 points and Vishe’ Rabb just missed a double-double as the Seawolves smothered Saint Martin’s on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Rabb produced 12 points and nine rebounds as UAA bounced back from Thursday’s 73-53 loss to Western Oregon, snapping the Alaskans’ nine-game winning streak.

The Seawolves got back in the win column thanks to a devastating defense that held Saint Martin’s to eight points in the first half, including two points in the second quarter.

Rabb and Kate Robertson each had nine rebounds as UAA won the battle of the boards 45-23, including 27 on the defensive end in a one-and-done clinic.
