I chose to call this series “Étude pour Carine” (Study for Carine) because it was a difficult score. Once she validated this project and offered her material support, I had to live up to her trust. Even if it’s my interpretation, I had to be respectful of her legacy.
Technically, it was even a bigger challenge. I started the self portraits in my room with my phone. I had to professionalize my image, buy a real camera, learn how to use photoshop, and involve people in this project. It was not only making images — I met a part of myself in this project.
