Fullkrug opened fire at the last minute, Germany regained the lead from Switzerland

Before the final match of the group stage took place, the supercomputer assessed that Switzerland had a 99% chance of progressing. Meanwhile, Germany has definitely passed the group stage after two wins.

However, host Germany still wants to top Group A to have a more favorable match in the knockout round. As long as they fall to second place in the group, Germany will likely have to face Italy or Croatia in the next match.

With such a context, the EURO 2024 home team rushed to attack right after the opening whistle.

In the 16th minute, midfielder Robert Andrich fired an extremely uncomfortable long shot from a distance of 25 meters. The ball hit the ground and goalkeeper Yann Sommer was unable to successfully block it. Unfortunately, this goal of the Tank was not recognized. Referee Daniele Orsato, after reviewing the slow motion situation, judged that Jamal Musiala had previously fouled the Swiss defender.

Switzerland suddenly took the lead in the first half.

Narrowly escaping defeat, Switzerland seemed to wake up and began to respond to its opponent. In the 29th minute, striker Dan Ndoye opened fire for Switzerland, with an accurate kick from close range. A quick strike from Switzerland. Germany neglected its defense and paid the price. Of course, much praise must also be given to Remo Freuler’s very sensitive cross.

After the defeat, Germany rushed to attack to find an equalizer. However, they are also easily exposed to their flanks. Dan Ndoye continued to have a chance to score just two minutes later when the home team took the lead. He accelerated impressively and fired an extremely dangerous cross-angle shot. Neuer flew in vain but the ball went wide of the post.

After halftime, the German team attacked more aggressively. In the 51st minute, from Florian Wirtz’s pass, Musiala had the opportunity to face goalkeeper Sommer. Unfortunately, Musiala’s finish was not dangerous. The ball aimed towards the middle failed and was successfully blocked by Sommer.

When efforts to stop the ball still failed to yield a goal, coach Julian Nagelsmann went all in by sending second striker Niclas Füllkrug onto the field.

Füllkrug became the hero of the German team.

From minute 70 until the end of the match, Germany almost no longer coordinated as methodically as at the beginning of the match. They mainly stuffed the ball quickly into the penalty area to take advantage of the height of Havertz and Füllkrug to find goals.

And when Germany was anxious to find an equalizer, Ruben Vargas once again kicked the opponent’s net. Luckily for the home team, Vargas went down a beat early and fell into an offside position.

Then, in an exemplary aerial battle, Niclas Fullkrug headed the ball into the Swiss net in the 90+2 minute.

After the draw, Germany still tops Group A and will face an easier opponent in the next round. Meanwhile, Switzerland agreed to continue as the second team in group.

Final round: 1-1

Scored: Ndoye 28′, Fullkrug 90+2′
