One of college football’s best defensive ends is back in business after a year off. This time he’s training at his former high school in Alabama.
According to a report by Greg Stephenson at AL.comFormer Tennessee Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt was hired as a physical education teacher and assistant coach at Plainview High School (Ala.), where he once attended school.
AL.com reported Thursday that Pruitt, who was the Dawgs’ defensive coordinator from 2014-15, was hired as a gym teacher and assistant coach at Plainview High School in Rainsville, Alabama, Pruitt’s hometown. He will also coach junior high basketball.”
Pruitt had a background as a defensive backs coach but worked his way up to eventually become the head coach at Tennessee. During his three-year run there from 2018-2020, he achieved a 16-19 record.
Pruitt was that too Subject of a recruitment scandal. It was found that he, his wife and some of his associates in Tennessee had been providing improper advantages to some players. As a result, he was fired from his position for good cause in early 2021.
Pruitt also served as a defensive coordinator at Georgia, Alabama and Florida State. Most recently, he was the senior defensive assistant for the New York Giants in 2021 under former head coach Joe Judge. In the 2022 season he was not acting as a coach at any level.
