A 16-year-old boy was killed and four others injured in a mass shooting at a high school football game in Oklahoma on Friday night.
The shooting occurred in the second half of a game between Choctaw (Okla.) and Del City (Okla.) in Choctaw. According to one CNN accountthe dead victim was not a student of either school.
Another victim was a 42-year-old man who was shot in the chest and taken to a hospital after receiving life-saving care from a trauma surgeon who was on site.
Apparently, Choctaw employs five police officers at every home game, and according to CNN, all five were in attendance — as well as four other local law enforcement officers.
“The Choctaw School District employs five Choctaw officers for each home game. Police said all five officers were present Friday night, in addition to two Choctaw officers on duty who stopped by the game and two Del City officers.”
Authorities recovered two guns and eight cartridges at the scene.
This particular incident marked 471 mass shootings according to the Gun Violence Archive in 2023 so far in the United States.
