Review you’ll never find me
You’ll Never Find Me (2023) Movie review BY 22nd Tribeca Film Festivalor movie run by Josiah Allen AND Indiana Bellwritten by Indiana Bell and playing Jordan Cowan, Brendan Rock AND Elena Carapetis.
You will never find me is the rare type of horror film that will simply “wow” audiences who like scary movies because of how terrifying the images are and because of how skillfully they are put together. As you watch it, there’s plenty of intense suspense sprinkled throughout its sometimes simplistic yet terrifying story line. This movie is just as good as the original Don’t Breathe which is a movie that seems to exist in the same dark world as You will never find me. Masterfully crafted by filmmakers Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell, this new pic is sure to give its audience some sort of initial sinking feeling for its female lead, played to perfection by Jordan Cowan as the film reveals that he has some cards up his sleeve. plays quite well.
Brendan Rock plays a scruffy man named Patrick who lives in a trailer home. He’s not the most attractive guy, but he doesn’t necessarily come across as pure bad, so it’s hard to know what to make of his character after he’s interrupted one night by a knock on his door. It’s raining outside, and a woman known in the title as the Visitor (Cowan) has appeared seeking, as Bob Dylan put it, “shelter from the storm.” Patrick lets her in.
Allen and Bell skillfully build tension through inspired direction. During a recent Q&A that took place after a screening at this year’s Tribeca Festival, Bell (who wrote the screenplay) stated that she was influenced by A24’s offering of horror films, It comes at night. While that 2017 pic had its moments, there’s nothing in it that comes close to the actual creepiness that You will never find me projects in its latter half. The tension is built during the opening stages of the film that is unparalleled in much of the horror we see in movies today. Allen and Bell create suspense like a roller coaster ride, and once the film’s secret is revealed, the film is horrifying for the viewer. But that’s the best possible way to unfold a thriller like this. This is the kind of movie best experienced late at night with a crowd in a movie theater. You’ll go back and forth wondering if you can even trust either of the two main characters.
Without revealing who does what to whom, there is some gruesome imagery present in the film as well as some fantasy scenes that add depth to the disturbing nature of the themes the film explores. When the filmmakers were asked about the meaning of the film’s title, it was confirmed that there are two ways to interpret it. You will never find me can refer to one of the two main characters. One who is living a life cooped up in a trailer and another who is out of her element and trying to get out of the bad weather. Maybe, she has people looking for her. Or maybe not. Each of these characters can have a dark side. You have to watch the movie to see which one.
Someone in the movie gets poisoned late in the picture. Without giving away any more spoilers, the way the late scenes fly by, it becomes like a nightmare come to life. The location of the film is aptly portrayed. From the power going out to the storm happening to the lights going on and off again, all the techniques the film uses may have been done before, but rarely to the level they are used. You will never find me.
Cowan and Rock are like a dream team here in how their characters create the thrilling experience that the film becomes. Rock is hauntingly solemn, and Cowan evokes deep mystery in a compelling performance. This movie offers scenes that will get under your skin and then some. HOW Don’t Breathethe action may be dark at times, but due to the well-built tension throughout the film, one will easily be able to follow the story line in You will never find me as it plays with the audience going back and forth between possibilities until the truth is finally revealed. This truth also has fiction in it, as the audience is asked by the filmmakers to decide what is real and what is in the warped imagination of one of the central characters in question here.
You will never find me is one of the best horror movies of 2023 so far. While it’s essentially a two-character piece, there may be a performance or two present in the picture to promise any horror movie fan a nightmare or two after watching the film. It’s a fun, haunting and dark film from two directors who are now on the map as great creative talents to watch.
