New York HS football player on life support after collapsing during practice

A 17-year-old Long Island high school football player is on life support after collapsing during conditioning for the Newfield High School (NY) varsity team earlier this week.

His name is Robert Bush and his Brother Steve told Newsday that Robert had only been on the field for about four minutes on Monday before he was lost to a heart condition. He had a pre-existing heart condition.

Trainers administered CPR and inserted a defibrillator but were unable to revive Robert – who was reportedly without blood and oxygen to his brain for at least 45 minutes. Steve says his brother, who is in a coma at Stony Brook University Hospital, has lost brain function.

On Friday morning, a local football coach shared a link to a GoFundMe on Twitter for Robert’s medical expenses. which you can find here. The site has already surpassed its $10,000 goal.
