Ohio State is at the top for Buford’s 5-star DL Eddrick Houston

One of the nation’s busiest high school football teams is Buford, Ga. Their squad includes the overall best recruit of the 2024 class –Quarterback Dylan Raiolacommitted to Georgia — as well as several other elite candidates, including five-star defenseman Eddrick Houston.

Houston (1.95 tall, 275 pounds) is expected to announce his signing next week, and loud John Garcia Jr at Rivals, Ohio State leads the group of schools in the running.

“Houston has been aiming for Ohio State since his official visit to Columbus in June, although he has yet to announce an official group of finalists ahead of his decision. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and USC are also in the running, but they seem to be keeping Ryan Day’s program in mind at the moment.”

That fits On3’s prediction model, where the Buckeyes are currently the big favorite with 88.1%. The other supposed contenders for his signing are Georgia (3.6%), Clemson (2.4%) and Alabama (2.0%).

Houston ranks third among defensive linemen in his class and No. 17 overall in the nation, both at Rivals. It’s a bit lower on the other recruitment services, but it’s still in the top 10 for its position in all four spots.

Currently, Ohio State ranks second behind Georgia in the 2024 recruiting rankings, about 20 points behind. Landing in Houston would go a long way in reducing that gap.
