The Flash (2023) Movie Review: A New DC Crossover

movie Flash finally the long-awaited release; commissioned Barry Allen/Flash to restore the DC universe by presenting a story both emotional and nostalgic for fans of classic DC Comics characters.

The Flash Recap Movie

After realizing he can go back in time, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) decides to prevent the murder of his mother that imprisoned his father, despite the opposition of Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck).

When he returned to the past, he kept his father from leaving the house until his mother escaped murder. But he failed when he returned to the present and reached a time when he was still in his first year of college, when he would receive the Flash’s power.

He discovers that his parents are still together. But he doesn’t work for the police, thus foiling the plot that took the Flash’s powers. Furthermore, General Zod is about to attack Earth and the Justice League never existed, only Superman’s cousin Kara (Sasha Calle).

Sweet reception

After waiting for a long time due to various delays due to impact issues, DC’s choice to release this movie is paying off sweetly. Ditto their decision to keep Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/Flash.

It is not difficult to order Flash as one of the best DC movies in recent years. The story is unified at a fast pace, but still light and fun. Good for general audience, especially for fans of superhero stories.

Kudos to Andy Muschietti as director and Christina Hodson as screenwriter who is able to explain the multiverse in a different way. Explains the plausible logic of Bruce Wayne’s various personas and the absence of Superman in the multiverse.

The pull of the entire story and the dynamic flow from start to finish makes this film different from previous iterations of the DC Universe. It distracts from the visually annoying CGI that looks like a PlayStation 3 game.

Ezra Miller emerges as the strength of this film. Behind his seemingly eccentric running style, he is able to portray Barry Allen’s two characters beautifully. Where Ezra/Barry destroys and restores DC, both fictionally and in the real world, hehe (if you know, you know).

You can tell that Ezra was not replaced not only because of the acting, but also because of the budget. Considering that Ezra played two Barrys, replacing the actor would have destroyed DC’s finances, which had been lost in the previous two films. Black Adam (2022) and Shazam! Fury of Gods (2023).

“Cleaning up” the DC Universe

The Flash finally got his first solo movie years later Justice Leagueof (2017). The period in which this superhero group finally passed into obscurity provided an opportunity for the Flash as a “cleaner” to restore the popularity of DC Comics.

Using the same premise as DC’s Flashpoint series, this film presents an emotional side of Barry, who will do anything to get his mother and father back and solve the problems caused by his selfishness.

There are some differences compared to the DC Comics version that give this film a new flavor. Including an explanation of the multiverse through a plate of spaghetti, as well as a nostalgic feel especially for classic DC fans, where cameos are scattered throughout.

But this film is not without its flaws. Quality visual effects, dialogue and the openness we feel are missing the cheese. However, it’s clear how this movie is DC’s last ditch effort as well as apology for the end of the DC Extended Universe era.

As the plot is presented, this film is present as a crossroads. Attempting to set a new direction for DC under the command of James Gunn while paying homage to past DC characters.

The Flash movie comes as an oasis amidst the chaos of DC during the transition period and the lack of clarity about the DCEU characters that have been built since then. The Man of Steel (2013). It could be a sweet start for fans as they await the arrival of the next DC superhero series.
