From Jeanne Lanvin and Elsa Schiaparelli to Iris van Herpen and Simone Rocha, the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrates the contributions of over 70 female fashion designers spanning from the 1900s to the present day. With more than 80 designs on display, visitors will witness the creative legacies of these women, discovering what drove their artistic independence, and how they rose to prominence.
While pieces by Miuccia Prada, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, and Elsa Schiaparelli will be showcased, the exhibition also shines a light on lesser-known designers like Anne Lowe, underscoring themes of anonymity and omission across time. Additionally, the exhibit showcases contemporary fashion that shapes today’s trends, featuring new generation designers such as Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada and Isabel Toledo, among others.
The exhibition will be on display until March 10, 2024. To learn more, visit metmuseum.org.
