Week 20 previews and tips

Major League Soccer midweek games again? Yes, we have everything under control. We present the biggest and best matchups for MLS Week 20 2023 predictions.

Unfortunately, there is still no sign of Lionel Messi as he was in China for a friendly with Argentina… However, there is still plenty to get excited about.

MLS Predictions for Week 20 2023

CF Montreal vs Nashville SC

Thursday the 22ndn.d June, 00:30 BST

Hernan Losadas CF Montreal may have started the 2023 season very poorly, but they now look like a much improved team. They also have the luxury of not playing over the weekend, which means they have to rest for this game against Nashville SC.

Unfortunately for Montreal, Nashville travels to Saputo Stadium in excellent form. The team hasn’t lost in Major League Soccer for over a month and Hany Mukhtar is unstoppable at the moment. Undoubtedly one of the best MLS players of the moment, maybe even the best. Last weekend, he showed why he is in contention for another MLS MVP award with a hat trick against St. Louis City in a 3-1 win.

Montreal has a very unfortunate record in this game. They never beat Nashville. This includes one of Nashville’s first games when the two franchises met in a friendly in 2020. Can the Canadiens finally defeat this franchise?

prediction: Mukhtar has scored just two goals in five games against Montreal. In this form, he will bring these numbers much closer. Nashville wins.

Austin FC vs Dallas FC

Thursday the 22ndn.d June, 01:30 BST

Our MLS Week 20 preview features this crucial Texas derby as the Lone Star States teams clash at Q2 Stadium for the honor.

Josh Wolff must be confused given that his Austin FC was among the top franchises last season, but rarely looks like the same team in 2023. Three losses in the last four games is evidence of a terrible run. However, at least a win over another Texas team could get fans back on board.

Despite an electric start, FC Dallas has fallen behind somewhat, with signs of inconsistency creeping in. Jesus Ferreira has been terrific for the franchise, but may take a break due to his involvement with the USMNT in the CONCACAF Nations League finals.

prediction: Dallas has been the better team this season and has historically come out on top in this rivalry series. Most MLS pundits will have Dallas win and extend its dominance over Austin.

Houston Dynamo vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Thursday the 22ndn.d June, 01:30 BST

Another team from Texas? Yes, the Houston Dynamo are in action concurrently with the aforementioned Texas derby, hosting the San Jose Earthquakes at Shell Energy Stadium.

Although Houston sits in the middle of the Western Conference standings, it just got back-to-back wins against LAFC. 4-0 at home and 1-0 in California, this is a confident Houston side that defeated the reigning MLS Cup champions.

The San Jose Earthquakes are having a great season. The team hasn’t played playoff football since 2020, so finishing fourth in the Western Conference is a huge accomplishment. A key component is Daniel, the Brazilian goalkeeper. Since returning from his knee injury, the goalkeeper has come back a different person and propelled San Jose into one of MLS’ best teams this season.

prediction: MLS predictions for Week 20 2023 should note that San Jose usually struggled in the trip to Houston. In their history, they have won just two games here, going back to 2010 and 2015. This game could easily be a draw.

LAFC vs. Seattle Sounders

Thursday the 22ndn.d June, 03:30 BST

The Week 20, 2023 MLS Predictions should just cover them. It’s a gathering of MLS’s most iconic and successful franchises when defending champions LAFC take on the Seattle Sounders at BMO Stadium.

After a tough two-game series against the Houston Dynamo, LAFC came close to conceding against Sporting Kansas City when they came from behind and Carlos Vela scored in the 90th minute to take all three points from Children’s Mercy Park.

Seattle had 11 days to prepare. While Brian Schmetzer’s team sits third in the Western Conference standings, they could be higher if unnecessary draws were turned into wins. Jordan Morris may have slipped a bit compared to his early season form, but he’s still an asset to the team.

The goal tally could be good as Jordan Morris is joined by another high-scoring striker in Denis Bouanga. The Gabonese player will play in the opposing team but creates a spectacle for the neutral player.

Forecast: The winner of this game can take the lead in the Western Conference. Seattle is an overdue win and LAFC hasn’t looked too good lately. Seattle can win, but both sides need to score some goals.
