Week 21 previews and tips

Despite all the excitement surrounding Inter Miami’s recruitment drive, which has secured Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, MLS Week 21 predictions call for more than two players in 2023, although Apple TV could expect more viewers as the former duo Barcelona will officially join David. Beckham’s franchise in early July.

MLS Predictions for Week 21 2023

Inter Miami vs. Austin FC

Sunday 2n.d July, 00:30 BST

Our MLS Week 21 preview begins with a trip to DRV PNK Stadium. When the clock strikes 00:00 on July 1stSt, Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets will be staff of Inter Miami. However, whether they will play or not remains to be seen. Messi should have made his debut in the League Cup match against Cruz Azul. From that moment on, he will instantly be one of the best MLS players of the moment.

However, other members of the squad will have to stick their fingers out if they want to stick with Messi. The team has lost its last seven MLS games, including last weekend’s exit when the Philadelphia Union won 4-1 to finish atop the Eastern Conference.

After a rough start to the season, Austin FC has developed into a team similar to last year’s level. Back-to-back 3-0 wins in Texas rivalry games have them back in postseason football. Backed by in-form players like Gyasi Zardes and Ethan Findlay, this Austin team could do very well this year.

prediction: This will be the third matchup in history between the two franchises, and Miami is unlikely to score its first win of the game. Austin is on fire and the hosts are on a roll.

Columbus Crew vs New York Red Bulls

Sunday 2n.d July, 00:30 BST

MLS predictions for week 21 2023 should play in the past when possible. There may not be a better opportunity than this game featuring two of the original franchises as the Columbus Crew host the New York Red Bulls. The overall series record is 31 crew wins, 33 NYRB wins and 13 shutouts. Can the crew get one step closer to leveling up?

Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte shocked the entire MLS world over the weekend by keeping Hany Mukhtar out of Columbus’ game against Nashville SC. This result gave them a run of five matches without defeat before this clash.

One of the most volatile teams this year is the New York Red Bulls. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun. Troy Lesesne took over as head coach in May and has generally improved the team, but some results have fallen short of expectations. The same can’t be said for last weekend’s performance as the Red Bulls seemed to take every chance they got in a 4-0 win despite having less than 35% of the ball possession against Atlanta United.

prediction: The Crew has been very good at home this season, averaging 2.3 points. The Red Bulls are good, but can’t expect much from Fortress Lower.com Field.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Los Angeles Galaxy

Sunday 2n.d July, 00:30 BST

The original El Clasico in California takes the stage as Stanford Stadium hosts this amazing Major League Soccer classic. While for years the LA Galaxy were the best team with their high-paying signings and their fame, this year it’s the San Jose Earthquakes who are objectively better.

Despite losing their last two games, San Jose has won enough over the course of the season to stay in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. A radical feat considering this franchise hasn’t had a playoff appearance in many seasons. The Luchi-Ball was definitely a step in the right direction as Luchi Gonzalez brought out the best in the likes of Jeremy Ebboise, Carlos Akapo and 19-year-old Cade Cowell.

Where to start with the Galaxy’s woes this season? Greg Vanney has had what looks to be a long tenure as manager, despite winning just three of his 18 MLS games so far. Their last three games have shown, almost, a slight upward trend. Three draws are better than three losses.

prediction: San Jose win. Simply.

Atlanta United vs Philadelphia Union

Sunday 2n.d July 21:00 BST

There’s no way MLS Week 21 2023 predictions won’t include this game as two of MLS’ best teams this season collide at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta United host the Philadelphia Union in a game that will have a big impact on the Eastern Conference standings as the two teams are separated by just five points.

Atlanta hopes to close that gap to two points. However, their seven-game unbeaten streak came to an abrupt end as the New York Red Bulls pulled off a surprise 4-0 win over the weekend.

Iconic Jim Curtin has been in charge of the Philadelphia Union since 2014, but his contract expires at the end of 2023 unless all parties agree to a new deal. It would be fitting for Curtin to be eliminated with the MLS Cup after coming so close last season.

prediction: Despite being a standout team in Major League Soccer since its inception, Atlanta United have struggled against Philadelphia as they haven’t won that game since 2019. With their confidence growing and Atlanta on the decline, Philly could win here.
