
Friday Report: Disney reports this morning Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 earned $17.5 million in domestic previews beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday.
This figure is 40 percent behind Thor: Love and Thunder ($29 million), equal to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($17.5 million) and 3 percent upfront Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 ($17.0 million), the most important analogues of this sequel within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During the achievement Love and Thunder‘s sign was never expected (that sequel opened in the middle of summer last year when schools were out).
That said, caregivers remains business friendly throughout the weekend for the reasons mentioned in the analysis linked above. Early Rotten Tomatoes audience results are very positive at 96 percent as of Friday morning, which could also help with domestic multipliers this weekend.
Early weekend estimates at this stage remain around $115 million for Wednesday projections, with a range of $105 million to $125 million.
Globally, the film opened in 27 more markets on Thursday, bringing its total to 47. The two-day tally is $35 million internationally. United Kingdom ($3.6 million), Mexico ($3.2 million), Korea ($2.9 million, France ($2.5 million), Germany ($1.7 million), Australia ($1.6 million), Italy ($1.5 million), Indonesia ($1.4 million) and Brazil ($1.3 million) lead the pack.
